Splits
Record who paid, who shared it, the amount, a category and a note. Split evenly, between some members, or by percentage.
Settling up
Record payments against what is owed. A partial payment lowers the balance, and the original expense stays visible.
Subscriptions
Track recurring bills, personal or shared with a room, and see what each one costs per year. When you confirm a charge, it becomes a normal room expense.
Offline
If you add an expense without a connection, Owetell saves it on your device. It syncs to the room when the device is back online.
Private rooms
Only members can see a room. Nothing in a room is public, and search engines do not index it.
Adding expenses offline
With no usable connection, Owetell saves the expense in the browser and puts it in a queue. When you are back online, Owetell sends the queue to the room. Then every balance in the room updates.
How balances are calculated
Each expense stores who paid, who shared it, the amount and the split method. Owetell calculates balances from those records. If you edit an old expense, every balance that depends on it updates.
Using Owetell from Claude
The Owetell MCP connector lets Claude read and edit your rooms through your account. It can add expenses from a receipt photo, answer questions about balances and record payments. It can only reach rooms you are a member of. If you are a view-only member of a room, Claude cannot change that room either.
