Connect Owetell to Claude. Then ask Claude in plain words to add expenses, check who owes whom, record payments and show spending. Claude works through your own Owetell account.
Before you start
You need an Owetell account that uses Google sign-in. If you do not have one, open the Owetell app and sign in with Google once. Then come back to this page.
Connect from Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Paste this URL and add the connector:
https://owetell-mcp-server.vercel.app/mcp - Claude opens Google sign-in. Choose the Google account that you use for Owetell. Approve the request for your email address and profile.
- Claude now has the Owetell tools and can work in your rooms.
You do not copy any keys or tokens. Claude stays signed in, so it does not ask you to sign in again every hour.

What you can ask
After you connect, you can ask things like:
- "What do I owe in the Barcelona trip room?"
- "Add dinner for 60 to the Flat room. Split it with Sam and Alex."
- "Record that I paid Priya 25."
- "Show this month's spending by category for the Flat room."
- "Add Netflix as a monthly subscription shared with the Flat room."
Claude turns each request into calls to the tools below.
What Claude can do
Every tool name starts with owetell_. Read tools only look up data. Write tools change data and ask you to confirm first. Long lists come back in pages.

Amounts are in normal currency units, for example 12.50. An expense splits equally between all room members, unless you name people (split_with) or give percentages (split_percentages, whole numbers that add up to 100). Balances update after every change.
What Claude can't do
Claude acts as you. It has exactly your permissions in each room, and never more:
- It can only use rooms that you are a member of.
- If you are a view-only member, it cannot add or edit expenses or payments.
- If an entry involves someone who has left the room, the entry is locked. Claude cannot edit, delete or restore it.
- It cannot add people to a room. To add someone, share the room's invite link. They join the room themselves, the same as in the app.
- Only the person who created a subscription can edit or delete it. Members it is shared with can confirm a charge.
Good to know
- Deletes are reversible. Deleted expenses and payments are archived, and you can restore them. Removing something for good is limited to the room owner, or to entries that were already archived.
- Large results are shortened. The result includes a note that says so. Long lists come in pages.
- If an action is not allowed, Claude gets a clear reason that it can tell you, for example "you don't have access to that room". It does not fail silently.
Security
Claude signs in with Google through a standard OAuth flow. Owetell checks the sign-in on every request, and each request runs as you, with your permissions only. The Google client secret never leaves the server, and refresh tokens are encrypted.
